Imaging tests are unable to detect cancer at this stage. It&#8217;s possible that cancer cells have moved to adjacent lymph nodes or organs, such as the urethra, vagina, or bladder (in the case of women).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Stage 3B &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The cancerous tumor has not yet migrated to distant lymph nodes, but it has already infiltrated adjacent organs. The tumor&#8217;s size fluctuates at this stage. The treatment plan depends on the cancer&#8217;s stage and the patient\u2019s overall health.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"surgery\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Surgery<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Surgery is typically reserved for small, localized tumors or for cases where other treatments have not worked. The main types of surgery include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Local Excision:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Used to remove small tumors that have not spread to other areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Abdominoperineal Resection (APR):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is a more extensive surgery that involves removing the anus and part of the rectum. It&#8217;s usually a last resort when the tumor is large or has recurred.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"radiation_therapy\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Radiation Therapy<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Radiation therapy is often combined with chemotherapy (chemoradiation) as the first line of treatment for anal cancer. This approach is highly effective, especially for early-stage cancer, as it aims to shrink the tumor while preserving the anus. External beam radiation is the most commonly used method.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doctors treat anal cancer with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT).
