About Dental Crown Treatment
A dental crown is a custom-made cap crafted from materials like porcelain, metal, or ceramic. It is designed to cover a damaged or decayed tooth entirely, restoring its shape, strength, and functionality. The crown is bonded to the tooth, protecting it from further damage while improving its appearance. Dental crowns are a popular and durable solution for preserving and enhancing the life of a compromised tooth.
Procedure of Dental Crown Treatment
The dental crown procedure is likely to need 1 or 2 visits to the dentist or prosthodontist. At the first visit, your dentist or prosthodontist will prepare your tooth by removing a layer of its outer surface and shaping it. They will use a local anesthetic so that you don't feel any pain or discomfort.
They will then make a duplicate of the tooth's form. A digital scanner or an impression pressed into a mold can be used for this. Additionally, the lab can match the color of the crown to that of your other teeth. A CEREC machine can create and fit a crown on the same day.
Your dentist or prosthodontist will cover your damaged tooth with a temporary crown if the crown is being produced in a lab. Your crown may take two to three weeks to create. For your second appointment, you will come back when your permanent crown is ready. When a filling is not an option, a dental crown is utilized to cover a damaged or diseased tooth.
