Urology Treatment

Diseases of the male and female urinary tract (kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra) are treated by the medical specialty of urology. It also addresses the male reproductive system (penis, testes, scrotum, prostate, etc.). Urologists can treat conditions affecting the kidneys, adrenal glands, bladder, ureters (tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder), and urethras (the tubes that carry urine from the bladder out of the body). A urologist can also treat issues with the testes, penis, prostate, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, and epididymis in men.

About Urology

Treatment of problems affecting the male and female urinary tracts as well as the male reproductive organs is the focus of the surgical specialty of urology. Urologists are medical experts with specialized training in the diagnosis, detection, and treatment of this group of illnesses and diseases. Urological techniques encompass a range of scope-guided treatments, robotic and laparoscopic surgery performed with minimal disruption, and surgeries helped by lasers.

Urology covers the medical treatment of disorders including prostate enlargement and urinary tract infections as well as the surgical treatment of disorders like kidney stones, stress incontinence, bladder cancer, and prostate cancer.

Procedure of Urology

Several urological procedures are performed frequently by urologists and are quite common.

They are listed below:

  •    Vasectomy- Many men undergo this popular urological treatment. The vas deferens, which transports sperm from the testicles, is cut and sealed by the doctor during the treatment to stop the flow of sperm to the semen. The outpatient process takes a maximum of 10 to 30 minutes to complete.
  •    Cystoscopy- A cystoscopy is a urology treatment that gives a urologist access to the bladder and urethral linings for inspection. A cystoscope is a device that is guided to the bladder by being placed into the urethra. A long, thin tube with a light and a camera at the end makes up the cystoscope.
  •    Ureteroscopy- Kidney stones can be diagnosed and treated by ureteroscopy. The kidney stone is located by passing a long, thin tube called a ureteroscope—a device that has a light and a camera—through the urethra, the bladder, and up the ureter.
  •    Penile Implants- Penile implants or prostheses are devices placed inside the penis to allow men with erectile dysfunction (ED) to get an erection. These devices are usually only recommended after other ED treatments fail.
