Founded in 1878 under Monseigneur d'Hulst's vision, Saint-Joseph Hospital originated as a project for a free medical faculty and training hospital. Although the faculty plan didn't materialize, generous lay Catholics facilitated the hospital's establishment. Construction and medical advancements unfolded until 1910, boasting 400 beds, 20 doctors, and 12 interns.
Managed by the Sisters of St Vincent de Paul, the hospital thrived. In 1976, it joined the public hospital service, providing emergency care and medical training. Transitioning into a foundation in 1977, Saint Joseph Hospital has evolved, modernizing facilities since 1995 while maintaining uninterrupted healthcare services.
